Animat - International Dreaming Mix

Animat - International Dreaming Mix

‘International Dreaming’ is a new mix from Sheffield-based downtempo electronica producers and musicians Animat.

Steeped in the tradition of Sheffield’s world-leading electronic music scene, Mark Daly and Michael Harding - aka The Only Michael – have been working together since 2004 and have released two albums and five EPs of their own material as well as devising and performing new live soundtracks to often forgotten films and remixing tracks for artists including Winter North Atlantic, Pitch Black and The Beaufort Scale.

This exclusive mix features a number of tracks from their latest album ‘Imagining Ghosts’, released on the Big Chill Label in June 2011, as well as a selection of tunes by other artists that have influenced and inspired them during the year.

Ntrop Recordings presents Joalz selection for Rodon fm

Ntrop Recordings presents Joalz selection for Rodon fm

Athens based experimentalists JOALZ have recently released their second studio album titled 'Monkshood,' recorded from '07 to '10 in Berlin, Athens and New York.

The album begins with 'Early' with the Anthony and the Johnsons' cellist Julia Kent. 'Sweeping Range,' the first single from the album, manages to reach an interesting breakthrough in indietronica and noise which results in a remarkable approach to Krautrock's rebirth, and it features vocals by the Canadian performer Sunday Luv.
'Case Study,' 'Out Of My System' and 'Blind Date' were initially recorded as a musical support to George Drivas’ cinematic trilogy 'Social Software' which have been featured in international film festivals, and later re-recorded for this album. 'Bella Fu' sets a distinction in the expansive feeling of the album by focusing on a guitar rhythm ¾ and the abstract participation of a Simmons drum machine.

Here you can listen to their broad vinyl selection they picked for an indie Greek radio station Rodon FM, featuring 'Sweeping Range' and 'Bella Fu'.

Next JOALZ live show will take place on 10.06.2010 at K44, Athens.

Parallel Worlds live @ Reworks 2009

Parallel Worlds live @ Reworks 2009

Parallel Worlds is a combination of atmospheric textures with pure analogue electronic rhythms, combining the feel of 70s electron with more modern styles. Strongly influenced by Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Pete Namlook, Jarre, Biosphere, Autechre and other experimental artists they use huge analogue modulars and sequencers combined with digital FM and virtual analogue synths and sampling.

MYM 7th Anniversary

MYM 7th Anniversary

MYM February 2010 presents you with a veritable feast of music to celebrate just passing our 7th Anniversary - yes that's 7 whole years - of doing the show. Its a been a great 7 years with the likes of Cobblestone Jazz live, Peter Van Hoesen, Gui Boratto & many many more gracing us with livesets and mixes. For this release we give you a set from the legend that is DJ NOBU from Chiba in Japan recorded at YUK's recent Christmas event, a slightly more housey TR NCH warmup set from the same night, a showreel from rising talent IORI (Phonica / Prologue) from Okinawa, a winter mix from LET'S GO OUTSIDE (Soma), DAVE TWOMEY's usual selection of bits and pieces (some of my best of 2009 and some newer bits) plus 2 glorious hours of MIKE PARKER (Geophone) recorded live at MARIANA : M2 @ WAREHOUSE702 in December for Dave's 30th birthday. Watch out for an exciting split EP (with Audion) from him in the near future on SPECTRAL ...

I stopped Dj'ing for the past few months. I've been having an internal battle over the question of what it means to be a Dj these days. I'm not sure if I have a solid answer myself, but I do have some ideas of where I want to take my material. I want to create mixes that make people feel something. I want to create mixes that make people think.

In this mix I was experimenting with disjointed thoughts and atmospheric soundscapes. I sampled the two movies called Waking Life and The World of Buckminster Fuller. Everyone should check these movies out.

I will be posting mixes every second Friday of the Month. The next mix will be stylistically similar, but more music-centric.

Feedback appreciated.

DJ set from the Om Tree Saturday night, July 31 2010. After lowercase microsound, modern classic, free folk and otherwise fine and subtly organic selections I played at the previous events, I suddenly felt the urge to change gears and play something completely different - which came to me from above in a form of old-skool IDM/Artificial Intelligence from the 90s and its modern reincarnation (recent microfunk reminds me of late 90s post-ambient-dnb IDM)... Intermingled by hyped up hypnagogic stuff and topped by the fruits of the triumphant return of Autechre. So, something not really typical for me ambient-wise - synthetic textures and pulses - almost psy-ambient sometimes - well, I like to be surprised by selection that just happens by itself :)
