Last Japan & Marco Del Horno In The Mix

Last Japan & Marco Del Horno In The Mix

Marco Del Horno (Ho Riddim) and Last Japan (NTS Radio/ Southern Fried Records) present Bullet Train volume 2. The second in the compilation series showcasing the ever changing landscape of bass music right across the board. From Funky to Garage to Grime to Dubstep to DnB and everything inbetween, these 2 dj / producers represent the current music generation who are not bound by genres, scenes or tempos. Instead they craft djs sets and records around new music they have a passion for that make kids skank hard in the clubs.

The compilation features established producers like Hudson Mohawke (Warp), 16 bit (MTA) and Benga (Magnetic Man / Rinse) alongside up and coming talent from the Bullet Train camp like Shift Key, Skanky and The Dub Ratz.

Marco said ‘With me having had a show on Rinse for over 4 years, Last Japan now with his radio show on NTS (Boiler Room) and us both touring all over Europe, we get the chance to break new music and see how things work first hand on the dancefloor. Kids aren't bothered about genres any more, they just want records that kick in a club and make them party hard’

The compilation includes several exclusives forthcoming on Bullet Train, and both Marco and LJ know the importance of breaking new talent. Last Japan said :

‘Its about trying to bring new guys through all the time. Anyone can play big records and just reach for established artists. But by mixing in our own records and material from new kids we’ve signed, me and Marco can develop and pioneer our own sound. ‘

With the first in the series receiving compilation of the month from iDJ magazine and Trap mag, the guys are excited to see how the second compilation is received. Marco commented on why he had to collaborate with Last Japan this time round:

‘Last year when I dropped the comp people didn’t know what to expect, and because it was full of unreleased records across all genres it got a great reception. This time I had to bring Last Japan in to mix it with me to put a fresh slant on it. Plus he’s signing records to the label and we’re playing a lot of sets together across 4 decks now so it makes perfect sense’

After a busy three years of gaining a reputation as an exciting live electro band in London, Rotkäppchen release their debut EP 'DEmontage' on Grimm Records in autumn 2011.

Rotkäppchen's main members Annie and Ian, now based in East London, have fulfilled a hectic live schedule throughout the UK and Europe, frequently appearing on the same bill as Erol Alkan, Vitalic and Ladyhawke. Rotkäppchen's shows are an elaborate visual affair and the pair are renowned for their quirky and unique fashion sense - their trademark black and white leotards and red capes paying tribute to their mystical origins (Rotkäppchen is German for 'little red riding hood'). Performances see Rotkäppchen combine their original tunes with assorted remixes and mash-ups to create an individual fusion of electronics, DJing, cabaret and instrumental prowess.

samurai.fm presents Ink Project

Ink Project consist of Melanie Dymond on vocals/production and Jez Lloyd on keys and production. Latest AA single 'Rewind Forward Reply' is a precursor to their full album, set for release later this year.

Their new single 'Rewind Forward Replay' is a futuristic take on electronic soul. Adopting elements of dubstep, broken beat and garage with influences of artists such as Four Tet, Mount Kimbie and Bonobo, Melanie's introspective lyrics contrast with her sultry vocal style.

The double A single is completed by 'Black Honey', a hypnotic, downtempo track. While it would be incorrect to mention "tr*p-h*p"; the spirit of MoWax and classic Bristol acts Massive Attack, Smith & Mighty and Tricky pervades throughout.

Ink Project released their debut single 'Call On Me' on eight:FX Records in June and have since had support from DJs including Gilles Peterson and MistaJam. Recent live summer gigs have included the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Jazz Refound Festival in Italy, Cargo and Notting Hill Arts Club in London.

Cyantific - Exclusive Mix

Cyantific - Exclusive Mix

Something very special for you this week in the form an exclusive alternative mix from D&B producer Cyantific.

With his new release on Ram Records, Cyantific shows why he’s been at the top of the D&B game for nearly a decade having made a name for himself as one of Hospital Records’ hottest producers and deadliest DJs.

This new mix for samurai shows a different side to the Cyantific sound and features the calypso rhythms of Jamie XX alongside house cuts from Julio Bashmore and Oliver $ and a healthy dose of Photek, Breakage and DJ Shadow for good measure.

We think this will be a mix you'll be playing again and again for some time to come.

Desyn Masiello presents Faciendo Radio

Desyn Masiello presents Faciendo Radio

Introducing a new regular show from Faciendo. They are a tribe of "musical shamans" and "mix scientists", working together to inspire, educate and spread love through the air waves. The group's primary focus is a series of mix compilation CDs, crossing many genres of electronic music, but each with the same goal: to represent the true "art" of a DJ mix, where all the pieces of the mix fit together in absolute harmony, and a truly new experience is created from the union of the tracks.

Alongside this, Faciendo Radio, their bi-weekly show, serves as a platform to showcase the latest sounds around the world, and also give the listener a glance into the past from the group’s musical history of timeless gems and forgotten classics. The format of the show may alternate each episode: from the club-oriented, where you’ll hear the house and techno they’re renowned for, to the more eclectic, airing the freshest in downtempo, disco, dubstep, drum n bass and whatever else you can name that touches the heart and mind.

Flirt FM Presents Feed Me Weird Things - 20Hz and Lower Edition 8th Feb '12

Special guests on this week's show are Deletia and Welfare. And these boys like their bass. I don't know if there's 20Hz and lower on this (you probably wouldn't hear it anyway), but there are a lot of quality tunes. In anticipation of Choonage #5 in Galway featuring Deletia, we discuss the night and give away some tickets, with a pretty tough question. There's a load of excellent new Irish electronic music, some rude 'reading' from Zebra Katz, minimal post-punk from Prinzhorn Dance School and Sunken Treasure with Konono No. 1.

The set I've played @ Localise: Baltic Session, the future bass night @ Media Station, Riga, 17 Dec 2010.

The main thing here is not the novelty of tracks, but the selection and juxtaposition of old and new stuff, and variety of moods. In 2010 I seriously reduced the amounts of dubstep in my musical pedigree, therefore - quite a few old faves (I still think the first genius Pangaea record is his best, and generally the early Hessle Audio was better), some recent stuff, a couple of unreleased tracks and - it wouldn't be me - some works that completely stray away from the *step field.

If you turn up the volume and listen to the set on a powerful system, you would understand why it kicks off with the processed guitar track by Christopher Willits - the bass there is MASSIVE. When I dropped it, the room was filled with the sound as if it was liquid, people swayed in its waves as in a real surf.
